Movers and Packers in Dubai: Prices, Permits and How to Hire

What do movers and packers in Dubai do?

A full-service moving company handles the whole job: packing materials, wrapping furniture, taking beds and wardrobes apart, loading, the drive, unloading into the right rooms and putting the furniture back together. “Packers” on its own usually means the packing crew and materials, which you can book with a move or as a separate service. A man with a van is the cheaper option for a few items you have already packed yourself.

What is included varies from one mover to the next, which is why two quotes for the same flat can look very different. Use this table to check each quote line by line.

What a movers and packers quote usually includes
ItemUsuallyAsk the mover
Packing boxes, tape, paper and bubble wrapIncluded when you book the packing service; not included in a move-only quoteHow many boxes are included, and the price per extra box
Wrapping furniture, mattresses and TVsUsually included in a full-service moveWhether TVs get a carton or only a blanket
Taking apart and rebuilding beds, tables and wardrobesSimple beds and tables are often included; large or modular wardrobes are often extraWhich pieces are covered, and the price per extra piece
Floor, lift and corridor protectionExpected by most tower managementsWhether the crew brings its own lift padding
Unpacking and placing items in cupboardsUsually a separate, higher-priced optionWhether unpacking means emptying boxes or arranging everything
Curtains, TV mounting and light fittingsUsually a handyman add-on, not part of the moveWhether the mover sends a handyman, and the visit charge

Packing is usually priced separately from the move itself. More detail: packing services in Dubai.

Movers and packers prices in Dubai by home size

The move column covers loading, transport and unloading within Dubai. The packing column is the typical price of the packing service with materials if you add it. Movers quote both separately and the ranges come from different price pages, so read them side by side rather than adding them up.

A smaller home usually means a small crew and one truck. A 2-bedroom apartment often needs one large truck or two small ones, and villas from three bedrooms up are usually a full day for a larger crew with two trucks. Pianos, art and other special items are quoted on top.

What pushes a movers and packers quote up or down

  • How much you own, not how many rooms. Movers price on volume. A full 1-bedroom flat can cost more to move than a sparse 2-bedroom one.
  • Access at both buildings. A short service-lift slot, a loading bay far from the lift or a villa street the truck cannot enter all add crew time.
  • Large wardrobes and modular units. Pieces outside the standard quote are often charged one by one, typically AED 100–400 per item.
  • Building charges. Some towers hold a refundable move deposit, typically AED 1,000–2,000, and some charge a permit or lift booking fee of up to AED 500. These are set by the building, not the mover.
  • The date and time. Ask whether a different day changes the price. Truck bans on some roads at peak hours can also decide when the crew arrives.

The charges people most often miss are listed in hidden moving charges in Dubai.

Do you need a move permit in Dubai?

In most towers and gated communities, yes. The community manager or building management issues a move-in or move-out permit, and security checks it at the gate or loading bay. Apply before you confirm the date with your mover, and book the service lift at the same time.

  • Emaar communities

    Emaar Community Management issues a move-in permit, and security can refuse entry without one. Its Emirates Living page asks for an online application at least one business day before the move, with Ejari, Emirates ID (both sides) and passport with visa page.

  • Nakheel communities

    Palm Jumeirah, JVC and other Nakheel communities handle move-in and move-out permits online, through the Nakheel website or app.

  • wasl communities

    wasl asks owners and tenants to submit its community management form. It takes about two working days, and moving out needs an NOC from the owner.

  • JLT towers (DMCC)

    JLT is managed under DMCC, but the move rules are set tower by tower, so start with your building management office.

Ask your mover which documents it provides for the application, such as a copy of its trade licence and the truck details, and who submits the form. Then check the road: from 1 October 2026 the RTA keeps trucks off Sheikh Zayed Road between 6 am and 10 pm, so the route and the lift slot have to fit together.

How to choose movers and packers in Dubai

Five checks rule out most problems before you pay a deposit:

  1. Look up the trade licence and check that its activity covers moving or packing.
  2. Get the quote in writing, based on a home visit, a video call or a full inventory.
  3. Ask for the liability limit per item and per move, in writing.
  4. Agree who applies for the building permit and books the lift.
  5. Pay a deposit by card or bank transfer against an invoice, and the balance after delivery.

How to do each check, the questions to ask and the common scams are in how to compare movers in Dubai.

How to get quotes from movers and packers

A quote is only as good as the information behind it. Before any mover prices your move, have ready:

  • both addresses, the floor numbers and whether each building has a service lift;
  • a room-by-room list of furniture, or a video walk-through;
  • anything heavy or fragile, such as a piano, safe, gym equipment or art;
  • whether you want packing, unpacking, storage or a handyman;
  • your date, and whether it can move by a day or two.

You can send these details through the Movers Dubai quote form. We pass your request to a moving company that serves your area, and that company contacts you with its own quote. Requesting a quote is free and you are not obliged to book.

Movers and packers in Dubai: questions

Short answers on price, boxes, permits and timing

How much do movers and packers charge in Dubai?

Typical Dubai market ranges, last checked October 2026, are AED 800–1,200 to move a studio and AED 7,000–10,000 for a 5-bedroom villa. That covers loading, transport and unloading. Full packing is usually priced separately, for example AED 800–1,200 for a 2-bedroom apartment.

What is the difference between movers and packers and a man with a van?

Movers and packers send a crew that wraps, packs, dismantles, loads and rebuilds. A man with a van usually brings a driver and one or two helpers who carry what you have already packed. The van is cheaper for a few items; a full crew suits a whole home.

Do movers and packers bring boxes?

Yes, when you book their packing service. If you pack yourself, boxes typically cost AED 3–5 for a small box, AED 6–8 for a medium one and AED 20–40 for a wardrobe box with a hanging rail.

Who applies for the building move permit?

Usually the tenant or owner applies, because the community manager wants your Ejari or title deed and ID. The mover often supplies its trade licence copy and truck details for the application. Agree who does what before you book.

Do I need to be at home while the packers work?

Be there at the start to show what is going and what stays, and at the end to check the inventory before you sign it. Keep passports, jewellery, cash and important documents with you rather than in the boxes.

How long does a move with movers and packers take?

A studio or 1-bedroom move is often done in part of a day. A 3-bedroom villa is usually a full day for a larger crew, and a 5-bedroom villa can run over two days. Lift slots and truck hours can stretch any move.
