Best Movers in Dubai: How to Compare and Choose

Request a free quote

What the best movers in Dubai have in common

Star ratings tell you how past customers felt; they do not tell you who is liable if your TV breaks. Before you compare prices, check that each mover on your list meets these five points.

  • A trade licence you can look up, in the same name as the quote and invoice, with moving, packing or goods transport among its activities.
  • A written quote based on a home visit, a video call or a full inventory, not a figure given over the phone.
  • A stated liability limit, per item and per move, and a written process for damage claims.
  • A clear answer on who applies for your building’s move permit and books the service lift.
  • A deposit you pay by card or bank transfer against an invoice, with the balance due after delivery.

Reviews still help: read the recent ones on more than one platform and look for patterns, such as several people mentioning a price that rose on the day.

How to check a mover’s trade licence in Dubai

  1. Ask the mover for its trade licence number and the exact company name on the licence.
  2. For a mainland Dubai company, search the number or the name on the Invest in Dubai licence search run by Dubai Economy and Tourism. It also accepts the Dubai Unified Licence number.
  3. Check three things: the licence is active, the name matches the quote and invoice, and the listed activities include moving, packing or goods transport.
  4. If the company is licensed in a free zone or another emirate, use the lookup services listed on the UAE Government portal’s page for verifying business licences, which includes the UAE-wide National Economic Register.

A licence does not prove a mover is good, but a mover that cannot show one gives you nothing to fall back on if something goes wrong.

How to compare moving quotes like for like

Put the quotes side by side and go down this list. Where one quote is silent, ask that mover to add the line in writing.

What to compare between moving quotes
Line on the quoteWhy it matters
Inventory or volumeEvery quote should be based on the same list of furniture and boxes. If one mover assumed less, its price is not comparable.
Crew and trucksHow many people and which trucks on the day. A smaller crew can turn a one-day move into two.
Packing and materialsWhether boxes, wrapping and wardrobe cartons are included, and how many.
Dismantling and reassemblyWhich pieces are covered. Large modular wardrobes are often charged one by one.
Permit and lift bookingWho applies, which documents the mover supplies, and whether any building fee is in the price.
Liability coverThe limit per item and per move, what is excluded, and whether fuller cover costs extra.
Payment and cancellationDeposit amount, when the balance is due, and what happens if you change the date.
Extra chargesLong carries, stairs, waiting time, overtime and VAT. Ask for any that apply to be written on the quote.

To see whether the totals are in line with the market, check typical moving costs in Dubai. Charges that often appear late are listed in hidden moving charges.

Questions to ask a mover before you book

The answers matter less than how they are given: a good mover answers in writing without being chased.

  • What is your trade licence number, and which name is it in?

Good answer: A number you can look up, in the same name that appears on the quote.

Red flag: Vague answers, a different company name, or no licence to show.

  • Is the price fixed for this inventory, or charged by the hour?

Good answer: A clear answer in writing, with the inventory attached and any hourly rate for overruns stated.

Red flag: “We’ll see on the day” or a price that only exists in a phone call.

  • Do you use your own crew and trucks, or subcontract?

Good answer: A straight answer, and the name of any company that will actually do the move.

Red flag: A different company turning up on the day with no explanation.

  • What is your liability limit, and how do I claim for damage?

Good answer: A limit per item and per move, and a claims process with a time limit.

Red flag: “We are careful” with nothing in writing.

  • Who applies for the move permit and books the service lift?

Good answer: A clear split of tasks and a list of the documents the mover supplies.

Red flag: “That is your problem” with no help on the documents.

  • What deposit do you take, and when is the balance due?

Good answer: A deposit paid by card or bank transfer against an invoice, with the balance after delivery.

Red flag: Pressure to pay most or all of the price in cash before moving day.

Common moving scams in Dubai and how to avoid them

Most moving scams follow a handful of patterns. Each one is easy to block before you pay anything.

  • The lowball quote

A price far below the others wins the job, and the total jumps on moving day once your things are on the truck.

How to avoid it: Get the quote in writing, with the inventory it is based on, and compare it with typical market ranges.

  • The vanishing deposit

A large upfront payment, often in cash, and then nobody turns up.

How to avoid it: Pay a deposit only against an invoice from a company whose licence you have checked, by card or bank transfer.

  • Belongings held for more money

The truck is loaded, then the crew demands extra before unloading.

How to avoid it: Keep the signed quote and inventory to hand. If a mover refuses to release your belongings, contact Dubai Police.

  • Volume inflation

The quote is based on a guessed volume, and on the day the mover claims you have far more.

How to avoid it: Insist on a home visit, a video survey or a full inventory before you accept a price.

  • The hidden broker

A website takes the booking and passes the job to whoever is cheapest, so a different crew arrives.

How to avoid it: Ask who does the move. Ask to see the truck’s registration card (mulkiya) and check whose name it is in.

  • Cover that does not exist

The mover talks about insurance but has no policy or limit to show when something breaks.

How to avoid it: Ask for the liability limit and any insurance details in writing before you book.

If something goes wrong after the move

  1. Photograph any damage before the crew leaves and write it on the inventory before you sign.
  2. Send the mover a written claim with the photos, within the time limit in its terms.
  3. If a company licensed in Dubai does not resolve it, file a complaint with Consumer Rights Dubai, which handles complaints about poor service quality, misleading advertising and unfair business practices. Keep the quote, invoice and messages.

How liability limits and claims usually work: moving insurance, liability and claims.

Choosing movers in Dubai: questions

Short answers on licences, quotes, prices and complaints

Who are the best movers in Dubai?

It depends on your move. The best mover for a studio is rarely the best one for a villa or an international shipment. Shortlist movers that hold a valid trade licence, quote in writing after seeing your inventory and state their liability limit, then compare at least two quotes item by item.

How do I check if a moving company is licensed in Dubai?

Ask for the trade licence number and search it, or the company name, on the Invest in Dubai licence search run by Dubai Economy and Tourism. Check that it is active, that the name matches the quote, and that the activities include moving or packing. Free zone companies are licensed by their free zone authority.

How many moving quotes should I get?

Two or three written quotes are usually enough to see where the market sits. More than that adds survey visits without adding much information. Make sure every mover is pricing the same inventory.

Should I choose the cheapest mover?

Not on price alone. A 2-bedroom apartment move within Dubai typically costs AED 1,800–3,000 (market range, last checked October 2026). A quote well below that usually leaves out crew, materials, liability cover or charges that appear on the day.

Is Movers Dubai a moving company?

No. Movers Dubai is an independent moving guide and quote-request service. It does not rank or review moving companies. When you send a quote request, it is passed to a moving company that serves your area, and Movers Dubai may be paid for that referral.

What can I do if a mover damages my belongings?

Photograph the damage, note it on the inventory before you sign, and send a written claim to the mover under its liability terms. If a Dubai-licensed company does not resolve it, you can file a complaint with Consumer Rights Dubai.
