Storage in Dubai: Unit Sizes, Prices and What to Check
A 50 sq ft storage unit in Dubai, roughly the contents of a studio, typically costs AED 650–900 a month, and a 100 sq ft unit AED 1,300–1,600 (market ranges last checked October 2026). Before you sign, check air-conditioning, access hours, the minimum term, insurance and whether the price includes 5% VAT.

Two kinds of storage people use when moving
Self-storage units
You rent a lockable unit, bring your things in or have a mover deliver them, and keep the key or access code. You can usually visit during the facility's access hours. This suits people who need to get at their things while they are stored, or businesses keeping stock and files after an office move.
Storage arranged by a mover
Some moving companies keep your goods, still packed, in their own or a partner's store, and deliver them when the new home is ready. Access is usually by appointment and may carry a handling fee. This suits a gap of a few weeks or months between homes.
Typical storage prices in Dubai
Monthly market ranges by unit size, compiled from public price pages of Dubai storage operators and marketplaces. Some quote before 5% VAT and some include it.
| Job | Typical range |
|---|---|
| Storage locker, 20 to 30 sq ft | AED 400–500 per month |
| Storage unit, 50 sq ft | AED 650–900 per month |
| Storage unit, 100 sq ft | AED 1,300–1,600 per month |
| Storage unit, 200 sq ft | AED 2,400–3,000 per month |
Transport to and from storage is usually charged on top. If a mover is collecting your things anyway, ask it to quote collection, storage and delivery together so you can compare totals.
What to check before you choose a storage unit
- Is the unit air-conditioned or climate-controlled? Dubai summer heat can damage wood, leather, electronics and photographs in an unconditioned space.
- What are the access hours, and do you need to book a visit?
- What is the minimum term, the notice period and the charge for leaving early?
- Does the price include 5% VAT, and are there admin, lock or deposit fees?
- Are your goods insured by the facility, or do you need your own cover?
- Is there pest control, and are the units sealed from dust?
- Which items are not allowed: usually food, flammables, gas cylinders and chemicals
Packing for storage, not just for the move
Things stored for months need more care than things moved across town in a day. Use strong boxes of the same size so they stack, keep heavy boxes at the bottom, leave a walkway to the back, and list what is in each box. Wrap mattresses and sofas in breathable covers rather than sealed plastic, which can trap moisture. The packing services guide explains what a packing crew does.
Clean and dry appliances before they go in, and leave fridge and freezer doors slightly open to stop mould.
What sets the cost of storage
- Unit size
- Pick the size by volume, not floor area; high stacking can save a size.
- Term
- Longer commitments are often cheaper per month; short stays may carry a minimum.
- Climate control
- Air-conditioned units cost more but protect sensitive items.
- Transport and handling
- Collection, delivery and appointment fees can exceed a month's rent.
Storage questions
Common questions about storing furniture in Dubai between homes.
How much does storage cost in Dubai?
Typical monthly market ranges, last checked October 2026: AED 400–500 for a 20 to 30 sq ft locker, AED 650–900 for 50 sq ft, AED 1,300–1,600 for 100 sq ft and AED 2,400–3,000 for 200 sq ft.
What size storage unit do I need for a 2-bedroom flat?
A 100 sq ft unit typically holds the contents of a 1 to 2-bedroom apartment; a 200 sq ft unit suits a 3-bedroom home or small villa. Stacking well can save a size.
Does storage need to be air-conditioned in Dubai?
For furniture, electronics, documents and anything wooden or leather, yes. Summer heat in an unconditioned unit or container can warp, crack or mould them.
Is my stored furniture insured?
Not always. Ask the facility or mover what its cover is, in writing, and check whether your home contents insurance covers goods in storage.
