How to Book the Service Elevator for a Move in Dubai
Book the service elevator with your building’s facility management as soon as the move permit is approved, for the same date and time. Agree the slot length, the lift’s inside size and who fits the wall protection. Using a residents’ lift to move furniture is a listed violation in DHCM communities, with an AED 500 penalty.

When to book
- Get the move permit first
The community or tower permit fixes the date. If you are not sure which one you need, start with the permits guide.
- Ask the facility manager for the lift
Some buildings book the lift automatically with the permit; many need a separate request to the facility management or security office. Ask which applies.
- Book both ends of the move
The old building and the new one each need a slot. Pick slots that leave time for the drive and, if needed, a break between unloading and loading.
- Confirm in writing
Get the slot, the lift number and the loading point in an email or on the permit, and forward it to the mover.
What to agree with the building
- The start and end time of the slot, and whether two slots can be booked back to back for a larger home.
- Which lift is the service lift, and where the truck parks and unloads.
- Who fits the lift wall protection, and whether the building inspects it before loading starts.
- Whether corridors and floors need covering on your level.
- Any fee for the booking and any refundable deposit, and how the deposit comes back.
Where a building charges for the permit or lift booking, published Dubai price guides put it at up to AED 500 (October 2026, typical range). Many buildings charge nothing.
Measuring the lift and the furniture
EDACOM’s Motor City rules make it the mover’s job to check the lift cab dimensions before loading large items, so the cab finish is not damaged. Do a rough check yourself first, so there are no surprises on the day:
| Measure | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Lift door width and height | The door is usually the tightest point, not the cab. |
| Cab depth and diagonal | Long items such as sofas and mattresses often go in upright or on the diagonal. |
| Your largest items | Sofa, wardrobe panels, fridge, dining table, mattress and bed base. |
| Corridor turns and door frames | A sofa can fit the lift and still not turn into the corridor. |
Send the measurements and photos of large items to each mover. It can then plan which pieces to dismantle and bring the right tools.
On the day
- Be there, or have someone there, at the start of the slot to meet security and the facility team.
- Check the lift protection is in place before anything is loaded. EDACOM, for example, does not allow a move to start without it.
- Keep corridors clear of boxes; DHCM lists leaving materials in common areas without approval as a violation.
- At the end, walk the lift and corridor with building staff and photograph the result.
If the lift breaks down
Ask the facility manager now what happens if the service lift is out of order on your date: whether another lift can be used, or whether the slot moves. Agree with the mover in advance how waiting time is charged.

Service lift questions
Why do I need to book the service elevator?
Because the passenger lifts are not for moving furniture. In DHCM communities, moving items in the residents’ lifts is a listed violation with an AED 500 penalty after warnings, and most towers will only let movers load from the service lift and loading bay during a booked slot.
How far in advance should I book the service lift?
As soon as the community or building has approved your move date. The permit and the lift booking should cover the same slot. Book earlier for the last and first days of the month, when many tenancies change over.
What if my sofa or wardrobe does not fit in the service lift?
Measure the lift cab and door and the largest items before the move. Movers usually dismantle what they can. For pieces that cannot be taken apart, ask the mover in advance whether another route, such as the stairs, is possible and what it would cost; the building has to agree to it.
What happens if the move runs past the booked slot?
The building may stop the move when the slot ends. EDACOM’s Motor City rules, for example, say a move that runs over its time may be interrupted. Ask whether a second slot can be booked straight after the first, and choose a mover that will commit to the crew size the job needs.

Lift booked? Match the mover to the slot
Request a free quote and give the slot times, the lift size and the floor. A mover can only plan the crew for a fixed window if it knows these.
