Older buildings, stairs and street loading
Some older buildings around Al Rigga, Port Saeed, Naif and Al Muraqqabat have only a small passenger lift or stairs. If yours does, tell the mover the floor and the lift size when you ask for a quote, because a stair carry takes longer and needs more people.
Loading is often from the street, sometimes in paid parking. Ask your building where the truck can stand and for how long. Wardrobes and beds may need taking apart to fit a narrow stairwell; apartment movers can quote for it.
Leaving or arriving: landlord, wasl, Ejari and DEWA
wasl lists rental homes in Deira districts such as Al Muraqqabat and Abu Hail. If wasl is your landlord, its process applies (see the wasl guide); otherwise your landlord or building management sets the notice and clearance.
When you leave, cancel your Ejari (free through the Dubai Land Department; a trustee centre adds AED 40 plus VAT) and close your DEWA account. DEWA charges AED 125 or AED 300 by meter size plus small fees, and emails the final bill within 24 working hours of the move-out date. The move-out checklist puts it in order.
Creek crossings and airport roads
From 1 October 2026 the RTA bans trucks around the clock on all crossings and in the Airport Tunnel. If your move goes from Deira to Bur Dubai or beyond, ask the mover what vehicle it uses and how it will cross. Airport Street, Damascus Street and Oman Street are also closed to trucks from 6:30 to 8:30 am, 1 to 3 pm and 5:30 to 8 pm.

How do I close Ejari and DEWA when I leave Deira?
Cancel Ejari through the Dubai Land Department, which is free online, then request DEWA move-out with your contract account and premise numbers. DEWA sets the deposit against the final bill and refunds the rest.
